The Phrase “Gaymerica” Should Be More Popular

Gay people are here, many of them are quite queer, and so we’d all better get used to it.  Many of us are used to it already — we support gay marriage and equality for homosexuals in general.  Others are prejudiced, clinging to ugly stereotypes and promoting hatred against gays.  Whichever side you fall on, I think we can all agree that the term “gaymerica” should be way more popular than it is.  The word only gets less than 1,500 hits on Google, and that is a national disgrace.

First of all, the term Gaymerica just sounds fun.  It’s like the classic A-merica with an unexpected twist that livens up the ol’ girl.  Sure, we’re proud of heroes like George Washington and Benjamin Franklin, but imagine what they’d have been like if they founded “Gaymerica” instead.  They might not have taken themselves so darn seriously, and loosened up a little!  Wore cooler outfits and listened to funkier music.  I’m not saying the founding fathers would have been gay, but with a country name like Gaymerica, how can you not get up and dance to The Scissor Sisters while holding the First Continental Congress?

Most importantly, it’s a term that both gay supporters and gay bashers can utilize.  Bigots can use the phrase like, “what happened to good ol’ America?  Now it seems like we’re living in a stupid Gaymerica!”  Whereas gays and open-minded folks can use the term in this way: “welcome to the new and tolerant America – or as we open-minded folks like to call it: Gaymerica!  Awesome!”  It’s a versatile new term that can bridge the gap between these two groups.  If we can all agree on language, at least that’s a start.

Perhaps you’re wondering why I have such an interest in seeing this term become more popular.  Good question.  I didn’t invent the term, and I’m not sure who did, but I am the owner of 500 domain name variations on the term Gaymerica, including GaymericaTheBeautiful.com, OhGaymerica.com, and GaymericanIdol.com.  I assumed I’d be flooded with offers to buy these domains at top dollar.  That has not happened yet, and I’m getting a little antsy.
